AMBER BOYD, M.A., LMFT

I am an African-American, queer-identified woman and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) providing affirming, client-centered therapy. I was born and raised in Oakland, California, a community that continues to deeply shape my values, my work, and my commitment to culturally responsive care. I currently reside in the Bay Area, continuing to build a practice rooted in care, community, and integrity.
My work is grounded in serving the communities that have shaped me—communities that hold resilience, complexity, and deep cultural wisdom. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Education from the University of California, Berkeley, and my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University. I am licensed to provide therapy in California and Texas.
I am passionate about challenging the idea that mental health is taboo, particularly within marginalized and disenfranchised communities. In therapy, I create space to explore lived experiences of oppression, identity, and difference, while also honoring joy, connection, and healing. Through both personal and professional experience, I have witnessed the transformative impact of therapy and remain committed to making mental health care more accessible, affirming, and human-centered.
My goal is to support individuals who are seeking greater peace and alignment within themselves—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. I work with concerns related to anxiety, depression, boundaries, identity exploration, relationships (both intimate and platonic), and the ongoing effects of systemic stress and oppression.
I use an integrative, client-centered, and affirming approach to therapy, tailoring treatment to each individual’s needs. Relationships and trust are central to my work, and I approach therapy with care, collaboration, and respect—creating a space where you can show up as your full self.
